Plan to Think Critically Now

Current Flux, Logic

Michael Butler, heir apparent to Greg Bahnsen, will be teaching a modular course in Critical Thinking the last week of August.

This course has been a life-changing experience for me. The relation between ordinary language and logic, and the relation between logic and Scripture, are alone worth the investment. Had I mastered the material in this course prior to college, I would have figured many things out in five years that ended up taking 30 instead.

And it is never too late!

Retirees wanting to make in impact in their golden years, home-schooled teenagers, students about to embark on college, grad students, pastors, and vacationers looking for some intellectual stimulation can all expect to profit from this course.

Plan to attend the modular course in Atlanta August 25-29, 2008.

Go to the Christ College site and follow the links, or call 770-614-0209 to finalize your plans.

Do not let the $500 fee stop you if that is a problem. Scholarship money is available. Your time and diligence is what is needed.

  1. This sounds amazing. Sadly, I am stuck in L.A. and will not be able to attend.

Will these lectures be put onto mp3 for those that can’t make the trip?

Also (slightly off topic), are there any other lectures by MB or you available other than the MB ones on cmfnow.com (I’ve listen to all of those multiple times already)?

  2. I understand the the significance of Butler’s development/explanation of TAG, but does Mr. Butler do any practical apologetics (as Bahnsen did)?

  3. Will the host church let us camp out on a pew, or should we look for a hotel somewhere?

First Word is such a phenomenal element in my life that I figure going down to GA would be well worth it. I’ll have to talk with my Sgt. and get some leave.

  4. Scott — I have initiated an inquiry. They are looking into it.
All — Call the number listed Monday 8/11 or later to get the answers to this and any other questions that would aid in making a decision.

  5. What ever happened to good old ‘sola scriptura’? Since when has “logic” become a means of informing or evaluating Reformed belief?

Is it the case that scripture has to conform to some principle of “rational/propositional coherence”, ? Or is it, rather, the other way around?

If the former, why not admit that it’s a rejection of “sola scriptura”? Maybe scripture just isn’t enough for the “elect”?

If the latter, why not admit to the superfluity of “critical thinking”? (Col. 3:16)

  6. Gregory — being excludes what it is not. A word that describes a state of affairs excludes what that state of affairs is not. To deny this, would make the word of God of no effect. This is because God is not what he is not; not because he conforms to some eternal law of non-contradiction more fundamental than himself.

I would commend to you, with added urgency, the course on Critical Thinking, which can now be taken via internet.
